A contemporary venue with a traditional charm, Gibney’s graphic suite—and more specifically its custom wordmark, illustrated monograms, sleek script fonts, and system of ornate flourishes—has an Art Noveau-esque feel and characterises the brand architecture in a style akin to French hotel design and Californian Country Clubs.
Palais was intent on finding the equilibrium between ornamentation and luxurious minimalism, and over 8 months of intensive iteration and creation; the resulting design system of visual elements was created. Ballasted by a lead brandmark suite that perfectly walks the line between classic and contemporary, the brand’s aesthetic is immediately established. This figurehead element is complemented by an interchangeable network of delicately illustrated cornices, borders & frames, and the refined use of composition and typographic hierarchy.
The result is a venue design unlike any other and an unmistakably clear aesthetic in communicating the ethos of upper-echelon standards, premium experiences, and the finest quality services from the moment you step through the door.
Palais Design Studio was honoured to be the sole graphic design entity in the creation and rollout of this brand across all communication channels. Thank you to George Kailis and the whole team at Kailis Hospitality Group for their trust and consultation on this project.

Catered towards young adults who live sunshine-centric lifestyles and prioritise travel and youthful expression, this brand was created from a place of fun and passion rather than commercial gain.
Similarly, the personalised understanding of a contemporary buyer’s needs and wants was not manufactured, but rather a natural outcome of Jones and Shehade being part of the demographic they are marketed towards. They empathised with their audience on what styles of garments are most in demand and they designed inclusive, timeless swimwear as a direct solution to these needs.
The brand enlisted Palais Design Studio in the infancy stages of its design process, as they prepared to fill out the identity elements of their brand and subsequently market its first campaign. Product design and logos were already accounted for, however, the creative direction, campaign photography, graphic devices, packaging and web/E-commerce elements were still undeveloped and required.
These aspects were developed, delivered and resolved by Palais and handed over to the brand owners for their own usage as they wished to operate the brand rollout. A design guideline of how Palais would structure the brand’s engagement was given - as detailed in the previewed outcomes displayed this folio. Drop 1: “The Token Collection” by Signed and Sealed is, therefore, an adapted version of the proposed designs and can be viewed on the brand’s Instagram page @signedandsealed circa. 2024.
A special thank you is also extended to Gemma Mcrae and Mika Van Wyk for modelling the collection and assisting in the stylistic direction of the campaign photoshoot.

Referencing Marcel Proust’s 1913 Novel ‘A la Recherche du Temps Perdu’ (In Search of Time Past) this branding project synthesizes Olfactory sense studies of memory recall with the elegance of minimalist label design as one identity model.
As the luxury cosmetics market wanes in popularity, and users yearn for more relatable, resonant brands, Pour Etique enters the space with empathy rather than ego and provides a solution that is user-driven. Led by the prompt “this fragrance reminds me of...”, customers are invited to inscribe their chosen fragrance bottle with a title that defines the memory this scent conjures.
A ritual of reminiscence, the user journey map is personalised for each person who interacts with the brand. The bottles are assigned value and unique visual quality from the feelings the owners project onto them and the titles they mark upon the label, respectively.
Small memoirs of time past on a product for customers to truly connect with. Pour Etique Parfums endeavours to be an extension of the buyer’s identity and a designed experience for organically discovering and creating your own ‘signature scent’.

The ‘creator and viewer’ dynamic - is a traditional way of art and design showcase and it installs a relationship between ‘creative’ and ‘subject/viewer’ in a linear manner that has little to no interactivity. In this model, artists/designers make work for viewers/clients, who then view the image(s) and are positioned to perceive a concept/message based upon the creator's strategic use of theory, and the elements and principles.
As such, most of the popular art and design print material comes in the form of hyper-curated blogs, reviews, journals, lithographs and hard-cover coffee table books that tend to critique work exhibited and/or showcase masters at work for people who enjoy easy-browsing specialised collections.
As art and design practice becomes more discussed in popular discourse and the entry barriers, especially for graphic design and photography, are now more accessible than ever (Macbooks, Adobe, Digital Cameras etc.) there is a newly fostered interest in ‘how to design’ and ‘how to make visual content’ rather than wanting to just spectate. This is not about commodifying or commercialising art and design practice but rather disseminating knowledge on how to work in these disciplines. A purist approach - one that isn’t institutionalised and managed by the (often agenda-based) leading publishers or organisations in the industry.
Artifaçe Magazine looks to perpetuate this movement and help disseminate useful information on art and design practice for all who seek it. Seasonally released zines that display stories, tutorials and exhibitions from a mix of creatives and a range of disciplines. The releases exist as a platform for inspiring ideas and active participation by the audience. A niched-down design project to consider an audience who are not satiated in the current marketplace offerings, and a more contemporary and experimental venture into publication design.

The once working-class port town of Freo has gradually evolved into a renowned hotspot for culture and entertainment in the Perth region and as such, the demographic of property holders in the suburb is shifting to further reflect this preference in the social landscape.
Public demand has swung away from the traditional townhouses on the perimeters of the township, and instead, prospective buyers look to live closer in and fully immerse themselves in the frenetic and engaging lifestyle that the district invites.
Ochre Apts. is designed for these users, integrating the contemporary fit-out preferences of its target market as a baseline for its aesthetic. Modular layouts, exposed ‘raw’ materials and a refined ‘loft’ living look and feel adorn the building’s design and marketing content. Subtle nods to the port history of Fremantle are evident within the design elements, and the overall personality of the brand feels both authentically Fremantle yet undeniably youthful and contemporary.

The brand is positioned to service a niche group of nomadic individuals who engage in aquatic activity and travel the world in search of waves - often in far-off remote paradises.
The surfwear industry at large has been in a period of stasis for almost half a decade now and as brands insist on revisiting retro styles, they risk irrelevancy.
Gorpcore’s success in the global fashion space proved a desire for specific gear-based products and has thus reshaped the marketplace boundaries. By blending authentic surf-centric branding with a reverence for the audience's low-maintenance personalities and lifestyles, Maris Rimor could hit an untapped area.
Integrating contemporary styles, and uncompromising on high-class manufacturing, this brand emplores its users to venturing into the elements and embracing the unpredictability of the sea, positioning your gear as a trusted extension of yourself.
Furthermore, by blending the often interrelated activities of surfing, travel, and freediving into one brand system, Maris Rimor displays its acute understanding of its audience. Equipped with an endless stream of marketing material and the breadth for a variety of product innovations the brand can tackle a new side of the industry. A defined niche.
